A Newport student has hit the target after achieving national recognition at the British Shooting Schools Rifle Championships.
Liam Beardmore is a Year 11 student at Burton Borough School, and his outstanding success has been hailed as a huge achievement.
After securing his place at last year’s regional qualifiers, Liam advanced to the prestigious national finals and proudly represented Burton Borough as part of the Shropshire Rifles Shooting Squad.
He competed in the highly-skilled 10m Air Senior Rifle category and delivered an exceptional performance to finish seventh in the entire country.
Burton Borough School principal Caroline Bedford praised Liam’s success and said he was an excellent example of the school’s commitment to giving students every opportunity to succeed.
She said: “Liam’s incredible dedication and determination are a shining example for all our students. We couldn’t be prouder to see him excel on a national stage.”
Liam’s success has been met with huge pride from his family, friends, and the wider Burton Borough community.
Mrs Bedford said his commitment, focus, and passion for his sport had set a fantastic example for younger students and highlighted the breadth of talent within the school.
“This is an extraordinary accomplishment for Liam, and the school looks forward to seeing what he achieves next,” she said.
