Students from a Newport secondary school have put their ski skills to the test with a challenging week on the slopes.
The Year 9 and Year 10 pupils from Burton Borough School visited Sestriere in the Italian Alps where they enjoyed learning to ski – developing new skills, building confidence and creating memories.
Principal Caroline Bedford said the youngsters took part in five full days of skiing with expert instruction from a local ski school which allowed students of varied abilities to make impressive progress.
“Many students pushed themselves beyond their comfort zones, developing resilience, improving technique and demonstrating determination in every session.
“At the end of the week, their efforts were formally recognised with certificates celebrating their individual achievements and growth.
“And the excitement continued into the evenings with a programme of social activities including a pizza night, a fun-filled quiz evening and a celebratory awards night.”
She added: “Trips like this are about so much more than skiing. They are about confidence, character and community. Our students embraced every challenge with enthusiasm and returned home with skills and memories that will stay with them for life.
“I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to all the staff who accompanied the trip for their dedication, care and support, which helped make the experience such a success.”
Trip leader Elliot Murphy thanked his team who joined the students on the slopes including Josh Darlington, Meg Robson, Lia Lyttle, Logan Titley, Toby Morgan, Danny Williams, Elvy Kennedy, and Lia Sutherland.
“The students had such an excellent attitude and represented our school with maturity, teamwork and enthusiasm throughout. Their positivity and support for one another were evident both on the slopes and during evening activities.
“We couldn’t be prouder of the way they took on the challenges and embraced the opportunities they were given.”
