Shropshire Petal Fields returns to Newport this summer on selected dates from August 7th to 16th. It is a joint venture from Shropshire Petals and Shropshire Festivals, turning one of the petal fields into a visitor attraction whilst the blooms are at their best.
There was a sneak peek at the field last weekend, as it was opened up for two live music events, welcoming an ABBA tribute and the Petals Orchestra for a Proms event.
From August 7th, the petal field will reopen, and visitors will be able to explore the field of delphiniums, sunflowers, cornflowers, and wildflowers, wandering through the layers of colour. This year there is a bigger woodland area to explore - look out for the alligator statue by the pools.
New for 2026, a phone-free area will create a moment of mindfulness, plus there are morning yoga sessions you can book on to. At the entrance, tipis and marquees are set up so visitors can access the pop-up café and buy petal confetti, with plenty of seating and cover.
Over 3.5 million seeds have been planted for the event. Due to crop rotation, the festival takes place on a new field every year with different views across the county and beyond. This year the blooms have endured an exceptionally challenging growing season. An unusually cold spring delayed the crop's development, and the three heatwaves that followed put the young plants under significant stress during key stages of growth. As a result, this year's flowers are shorter and more widely spaced than in previous years.
“Come and escape the stresses of life with a stroll through our beautiful flowers,” said Beth Heath from Shropshire Festivals. “Shropshire Petal Fields is unlike any of our other events – it’s about slowing down for a bit, and taking in nature.
“This is a tough summer for us and farmers across the UK. We have been very honest with customers that the flowers, whilst still beautiful, haven’t grown as tall and densely in some areas of the field compared with previous years. We can solve a lot of problems on an event site, but we can’t control the weather. We hope that people will still support us, helping us to continue the event for future years.”
Shropshire Petals uses solar-powered robots to sow and weed the flowers. This state-of-the-art GPS precision technology saves backbreaking hours of weeding.

The organisers have teamed up with The Pastry Box in Newport to offer a Ploughman’s Hamper for two or four people that must be booked in advance via the website.

The flower field will be open daily from August 7th to 16th (closed on August 11th and 13th). Opening times are 10am – 5pm. When booking, you have the choice of a morning ticket (10am – 1.30pm) or an afternoon ticket (1.30pm – 5pm). There are three dog days planned on August 12th, 15th, and 16th, a Princess Event on August 10th, and a sunset late opening on August 14th.
