The Severn Hospice - originally called the Shropshire & Mid-Wales Hospice - first opened its doors at Bicton Heath in Shrewsbury in 1989. However, local Support Groups began fund-raising in earnest years before then, with the Newport Support Group becoming established in 1987.
Newport Support Group was very successful under the leadership of Anne Crouch and Barbara Smedley, who are sadly no longer with us.
